About The Charles Bathurst Inn

The 18th Century Charles Bathurst Inn in Arkengarthdale, or ‘The CB Inn’, as it is affectionately known, nestles in some of the Yorkshire Dales most spectacular scenery, an outdoor playground for nature lovers. Take a scenic walk across its unique landscape of hay meadows and heather moorland or immerse yourself in its dense greenery to benefit from nature's healing powers. For the sporty crowd, mountain biking is an exhilarating way to see what Arkengarthdale truly has to offer.

If the wilderness is not your strong suit, or if a low-key afternoon is what you need, visit the historic town of Barnard Castle for a slow stroll through the colourful streets and antique shops or visit the Bowes Museum, a hidden treasure housing internationally renowned art.

On your return, a friendly welcome awaits you with open fires, antique and Mouseman furniture, creating a warm atmosphere in which to enjoy award-winning dishes, expertly prepared with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients (we have held an AA Rosette for dining since 2013) accompanied by a selection of fine wines and ales.  Finally, retire to one of our 19 individually furnished rooms with sumptuous beds, offering stunning views of ‘The Stang Forest’ and surrounding countryside.

The Inn also provides the perfect setting for a special celebration in our beautiful Terrace Room with panoramic views of the Dale. As one of Yorkshire's finest destinations, we are licensed for civil marriage ceremonies and also provide an exclusive, private venue for businesses to meet, taking advantage of the surrounding area for team-building walks.
